Stuff About Golf

Archive for March, 2010

I am going to a job about golf caddie tomorrow. What all do I need to know?

A caddie needs to know the course back and forth. You’ll need to know distances to the front, middle, and back of the green as well as knowing the distance to the hole on approach shots. You’ll need to know where a golfer can miss an approach shot meaning if a player misses to the left, can he/she still have a shot at making par or would it be better to miss to the right. Also whether you can miss long or short. You’ll need to help strategize for the player you’re caddying with. Basically, a caddy is like tour guide for the golfer.

i saw this ad on golfchannel for a golf academy.edu college for getting jobs in the golf industry…………..is there any money in the golf industry for graduates of a college like that and what would you be?

There are "golf" schools out there that will teach you what you need to know. And they have graduates from their school that have jobs in the golf industry so there is a network. I have been in the business for 15 years. If I knew then what I know now, I would have enrolled in what is called the Professional Golf Management (PGM) at an accredited university. While I have gained invaluable experience through the years I am still an Apprentice and make around $20,000 a year. I don’t pay to play golf, which I do play 5-6 days a week, so with the money I DON’T pay, it’s more like double that. Caddying can get you better money, but is not a guaranteed job with security. I made a little over $2000 in five days a couple years ago, but it is hard work, and you don’t usually get to play golf for free, because you are not employed by the club.
The PGM program will give you a college degree and Class-A PGA professional status upon graduation, which will substantially raise the $$$ you will make in the golf biz. Some PGA club pros make $100,000 + a year. Not bad, for walking around, smiling, shaking hands, teaching and playing golf, and doing a little paperwork.

IMO these "golf schools" only teach you what you can learn working at a golf course and will not "fast-track" you to a great golf professional career. Hope it helped. Good luck!

I have mine. Too worst that I wouldn’t come again to that golf course. What’s your worst experience at a golf course that you think that course just sux.

My best friend’s Dad who was about 45 years old at the time simply dropped dead of a heart attack while my friend was putting on the 18th hole……this was definitely my worst experience on a golf course.

Just wondering because I work at fox creek and everybody says it is the fanciest golf course in the maritime, although I just want to know if it is accurate or not.

If you mean the Maritimes, as in Atlantic Canada, then I’d have to say Fox Harb’r. Fox Creek is nice, but Fox Harb’r hosted an event with Tiger Woods and Charles Barkley. 100x better than Paul Casey and Stephen Ames.

I work outside on a golf coarse.

I need a shoe that is

Waterproof, Breathable for summer time, GOOD GRIP, and Comfortable.

Any ideas?

A link would be helpful to! Thanks :)

If you find a pair of shoes that you like but they are not waterproof, we sell a heat activated spray that will waterproof them for you. See the link below and use coupon code "yahoo" for 15% off your order. Hope that helps!

The municipal golf course advertises a membership rate for college students on their website and in the newspaper. There is not mention of an age restriction on either advertisement but when I went in to purchase it they said I am "too old" to get the rate. They told me that since I am 26 they cannot sell me the membership for that price. Are they allowed to do this as I am a full time college student and that is how they advertise it. Thanks for the info!

I’d have to say that they can’t get away with that. Contact the City Attorney’s office. I’d also be willing to bet that they city doesn’t know they are doing that.
